Shihan Mike Hess, a 9th degree black belt, began his training in the Zenshotokai Karate Ryu system under the late Master Virgil Kimmey in 1967 and rose to the position of senior student.
In addition to his Zenshotokai rank, Shihan Hess hold a 5th degree black belt in U.S. TAI Karate Association. Under Grand Master David German, he also held the title of Aloha Goodwill Games Grand Master, U.S. TAI Karate Black Belt Grand Champion and competed in full contact Karate for 3 years.
Shihan Hess incorporates his vast experience in Zenshotokai Karate Ryu with his study in the styles of Kenpo, Taewondo, Aikido, Tai Chi, Zen Tai Chi, Jui Jitsu, Nin Jitsu, Hapkido, ShotoKan and Chi Na. His martial arts weapons experience includes Bo, Staff, Sai, Nun Chaku, Tonfa, Escrimas, Kama and Katana.
Shihan Hess is an active member of the National Association of Professional Martial Artists, White Tiger Association, Black Belt Hall of Fame, Martial Arts Industry Association.
As Master Kimmey's senior student, Shihan Hess has operated Mike Hess Karate for over 35 years. Mike Hess Karate schools are located at three locations in the Central Savannah River Area in South Carolina.
